Jack Doherty, a popular YouTuber, just crashed his McLaren 570S supercar during a livestream. It appears as though the wreck was completely avoidable as he was the only car involved. Doherty now faces criticism for how he handled the aftermath.
Doherty has almost 15 million followers on YouTube and gained much of his notoriety via pranks. The accident happened on Saturday morning in Miami as rain poured on the highway. Doherty was checking his phone during driving and livestreaming on the Kick platform. Moments after the camera pans away from Doherty the engine revs, the driver loses control, and slides into a guardrail.

Thankfully, it appears as though no other vehicles ended up as part of the crash. Doherty’s camera person, a man referred to only as Michael, sustained injuries that left him bloodied. Despite that, Doherty almost immediately requests that Michael continue to film the incident with not one but two phones in the aftermath.
The McLaren set Doherty back $202,850 according to his YouTube channel. Now, it sits as a former shell of itself. The entire front clip was destroyed in the accident so it’s probably a write-off. Perhaps the gravity of the situation has made an impact on Doherty as well.
Since the crash, several online have criticized Doherty’s behavior. A community note on one of his posts says “Context needed: Jack was using his phone and driving at an excessive speed in rain, and he knew it.” Another said, “Your friend was bleeding out and you were more concerned with filming the whole thing than trying to help him lmao.”
It’s worth noting that Kick has since banned Doherty for streaming the incident as a violation of its guidelines. On Sunday, he posted a follow-up message on X where he claimed that it’s a “huge learning lesson.” Hopefully, he’ll explain exactly what lesson he’s referring to at a later date. It’s unclear if he faces any legal charges related to the crash.
