Aston Martin Vanquish Volante Will Let You Hear The 824 HP V12 With Ease

Aston Martin introduced the Vanquish last month and now they’re getting ready to drop the top on the new Vanquish Volante. Spied undergoing testing in the most British of conditions, the model is a continent-crushing convertible that combines style and elegance with a twin-turbo V12 engine.

While the prototype wears a boxy disguise, the production model will follow in the footsteps of the coupe and have a large grille as well as sporty carbon fiber bodywork. We can also see flush-mounted door handles and a familiar ventilated hood.

The roofline was one of the Vanquish’s most compelling features and something has been lost in translation from coupe to convertible. This isn’t surprising, but the soft top creates a gentler appearance and this is amplified by the unique rear quarter glass.

Aside from the new decklid, the rear end largely carries over as we can see a distinctive “Kamm Tail” and blade-style taillights. They’re joined by a sizable diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system, which can presumably be had in both stainless steel and titanium guise.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but the cabin should be as predictable as Old Faithful. This means we can expect a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. They should be joined by familiar switchgear as well as Alcantara and semi-aniline leather upholstery.

The aforementioned 5.2-liter V12 produces a healthy 824 hp (614 kW / 835 PS) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. It’s paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.2 seconds and onto a top speed of 214 mph (344 km/h).

The convertible will likely be a tad slower and even more exclusive. While that remains to be seen, Aston Martin as previously said less than 1,000 coupes will be made annually.
