• The Chery KP11 concept previews an electrified midsize pickup for global markets.
  • A prototype was shown in China with rugged styling and camping-focused accessories.
  • The model is expected to debut in 2025, with ICE, PHEV, and REV powertrain options.

Chinese automaker Chery has quietly unveiled an intriguing new pickup concept that could hit global markets as early as next year, evolving into a full-fledged production model. Although details remain sparse, this low-key reveal has piqued interest, particularly in markets where affordable midsize trucks are in high demand.

The Chery KP11 prototype made its appearance on the sidelines of the 2024 Chery International User Summit, held in Wuhu, China. Strangely, the brand opted not to promote the concept through its usual social media channels, leaving attendees as our primary source of intel. It’s an odd move in a digital-first era, especially when launching a model with such global potential.

Photos shared by several outlets, including Philippine-based AutoIndustriya, offer an up-close look at the Chery KP11. The blacked-out windows indicate that this is a static prototype, meaning it lacks both an interior and mechanical components. However, the exterior design appears nearly production-ready, suggesting that what we see now is likely very close to the final version.

Up front, Chery sticks to the oversized grille playbook, flaunting bold “CHERY” lettering in a dark grey hue. The nose also features modern-looking split LED headlights, and a rugged bumper with an aluminum-style skid plate.

The profile feels somewhat predictable, with chunky fenders bulging over boxy wheel arches and rugged all-terrain tires along with a healthy amount of ground clearance. The color choice for the exterior is similar to the Blue Lightning shade of the Ford Ranger Raptor, which also appears to have served as an inspiration for the integrated side steps on the rear bumper.

The rear isn’t shy about its Ford influence either, with the LED taillights sharing more than a passing resemblance. But the massive “CHERY” lettering stamped into the tailgate ensures no one forgets this truck’s Chinese heritage. To drive home the adventurous vibe, the prototype is kitted out with camping accessories, including a bed rack and a rooftop tent—ideal for overlanding.

Powertrain options will reportedly include a turbocharged 2.4-liter gasoline engine, alongside plug-in hybrid and range-extender setups, leaving the diesel out of the equation.

Chinese media suggest that the global debut of the Chery pickup could happen sometime next year. The model is expected to be launched in Asia-Pacific, South American, and European markets, but not in North America.

Judging from the vehicle’s size, it will likely target the popular midsize pickup segment. Expect it to lock horns with segment stalwarts like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, Kia Tasman, VW Amarok, Fiat Titano, Chevy S10, as well as the GWM Cannon Ute and the recently introduced BYD Shark from China.

In a recent video shared by Jacob Brooke from Australian media outlet Carsauce, the KP11 is confirmed to be headed for the Australian market too, adding yet another contender to an already crowded field.
