The Toyota Tacoma lineup offers a little bit of everything as there’s an affordable SR, a luxurious Limited, and a rugged TRD Pro. However, few are as cool as the #84 Tacoma TRD ProRunner Race Concept that will debut at SEMA.
Billed as a “vision of what a dedicated race-truck could look like,” the model was built to compete in the Stock Mid-Size off-road race class. It’s based on an XtraCab pickup that has been outfitted with a number of components sourced from the Tacoma TRD Pro.

Bound to draw attention, the truck has an eye-catching exterior that combines a Mudbath paint job with a retro-inspired livery. The old school vibes are further enhanced by chrome mirrors and door handles.
Besides recalling the trucks of yesteryear, the model has been outfitted with an ARB sport bar, auxiliary lights, and brushed aluminum wheels that are wrapped in BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A tires. Out back, the bed houses a spare tire as well as a dedicated fuel cell. It’s also worth noting the tailgate has been replaced by a net to save weight.
Since the concept was designed for off-road racing, the suspension received a lot of attention. It features TRD front upper control arms as well as FOX Quick Switch 3 Internal Bypass shocks with aluminum housings and rear remote reservoirs. They’re joined by a full complement of skid plates for added protection.
Toyota didn’t say much about the interior, but it features red SofTex seats with four-point harnesses. We can also see a custom roll cage and TRD Pro badging.
The automaker didn’t mention performance specifications, but the Tacoma TRD Pro has an i-Force Max powertrain that consists of a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.87 kWh nickel-metal hydride battery, and an electric motor that is integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup gives the truck a combined output of 326 hp (243 kW / 331 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque.
