- Porsche is recalling nearly 1,900 vehicles with center locking wheel bolts that may fracture.
- If the bolts fail, a wheel could detach and cause a host of problems.
- The automaker is aware of “several incidents” and owners are being asked to stop driving.
Porsche and performance go hand in hand, so it’s not surprising that some models have center locking wheels. However, there’s a serious problem with the fastening system and this can cause the wheels to “detach.”
Wheels and detachment are two things you never want to hear together and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the issue impacts 1,851 vehicles. Among them are the 2024 911, 2024 718 Spyder RS, and 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

The Safety Recall Report says impacted vehicles have a center lock wheel fastening system that was “manufactured out of specification and could fracture.” This is a serious safety issue as drivers may lose control and crash.
While the recall is light on specifics, Porsche became aware of “several incidents attributable to center lock fractures” between September and October of this year. The company is still investigating, but it appears all of the problems can be traced back to a single batch of faulty bolts.
Due to the seriousness of the issue, Porsche decided to conduct a recall as well as ask owners to stop driving their vehicles. Dealers will inspect the center locking wheel assembly and replace any incorrectly manufactured parts. Of course, that’s a bit harder when you can’t drive the car to said inspection.
