• Pagani discovered the issue during validation tests of a dashboard with a new leather surface.
  • The rough carbon fiber used on the dashboard could damage the passenger-side front airbag.
  • If necessary, Pagani will fly engineers from Italy to oversee the recall repairs and fixes.

The Pagani Utopia, the successor to the fabled Huayra, has only recently started making its way into the driveways of U.S. buyers. A true work of art, it’s one of the most exquisitely crafted cars on the planet. However, the stunning supercar is not without its flaws, as it has been recalled due to an issue with its dashboard that could affect the deployment of the passenger airbag. Evidently, even multi-million dollar hypercars have their imperfections.

The Italian car manufacturer has revealed that a specific area of the carbon fiber mold used for the dashboard has a rough finish. In the event of an airbag deployment, this section could potentially damage the airbag and impact its performance, increasing the risk of injury. While the issue may seem minor, in a car of this caliber, even the smallest defect can have serious consequences.

Pagani first became aware of a possible issue on November 18 during validation tests of a dashboard with a new leather surface. Out of an abundance of caution, it’s started using a new carbon fiber mold and will remedy all vehicles currently in production and those already delivered to customers.

In the US, just eight examples of the Pagani Utopia have been delivered thus far, all of which were built from January 30, 2024, to November 19, 2024. Pagani will apply Kevlar strips on all edges of the carbon fiber panel to avoid any contact between it and the airbag.

The Recall Process

Affected customers and dealers will be notified of the recall between December 9 and December 23, 2024. Dealers will arrange to pick up the impacted vehicles (well, what did you expect?) and perform the necessary fix. If additional support is required, Pagani will fly engineers from its Italian headquarters to oversee the repairs in person.

The first Utopia delivered in the US earlier this year was a gorgeous example clad entirely in carbon fiber, riding on silver wheels, and sporting gold-colored brake discs. Prices in the US start at $2.19 million, and just 99 units are heading to production.
