- The 2024 Nissan Kicks S will survive into 2025 as the new Kicks Play.
- It costs $21,520 and is only $310 cheaper than the redesigned Kicks.
- Equipment carries over, so there’s FWD and a four-pot with 122 hp.
Nissan introduced the redesigned Kicks earlier this year and it’s a huge improvement thanks to a more powerful engine, available all-wheel drive, and a design that doesn’t feel purpose-built for rental car fleets. However, it’s not the only Kicks in town as Nissan has introduced the new Kicks Play.
If you’re experiencing déjà vu, you’re not alone as the 2025 Kicks Play is a 2024 Kicks S with a slightly different name. Nissan didn’t say why they’re keeping the model around, but it’s hard to justify its existence as pricing starts at $21,520 before a $1,390 destination fee.

For comparison, the 2025 Kicks (the good one) begins at $21,830 and has a $1,390 destination fee. This means there’s only a $310 price difference between the two models. However, the reality of the situation will likely be different as we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Kicks Play being sold at a discount when it arrives early next year.
Equipment carries over from last year, so buyers will find halogen headlights and 16-inch steel wheels. They’re joined by air conditioning, cruise control, a six-speaker audio system, and a 7-inch infotainment system.
While those features aren’t much to get excited about, the Kicks Play does have an assortment of driver assistance systems. Highlights include Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection. They’re joined by Rear Automatic Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Power is provided by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 122 hp (91 kW / 124 PS) and 114 lb-ft (154 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an Xtronic continuously variable transmission, which sends power exclusively to the front wheels.
