The current generation of the Subaru WRX never got a full-blown STI derivative, but Subaru kept us entertained with special editions tuned by STI. The same applies to the S210, which is based on the Subaru WRX S4 STI Sport R EX but features a number of changes inspired by the WRX NBR Challenge race car that competes at the Nurburgring 24-Hour Race.

More Power, More Thrill

The big news is the powertrain – the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine generates 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS), which represents and increase of 25 hp (19 kW) compared to the rest of the WRX lineup. The power boost was achieved thanks to a new intake system, a pre-turbo duct, an exhaust with a low-back pressure muffler, and a revised ECU. Torque remains stable at 375 Nm (276.6 lb-ft), but offers a more linear response.

Power is sent to all four wheels exclusively via an automatic gearbox, which is called Subaru Performance Transmission. According to the automaker, the upgraded version of the CVT improves driving pleasure by “tuning the gearshift characteristics to match the engine output and driving force”.

Subaru WRX Finally Gets An STI Edition

Chassis upgrades include re-tuned electronically-controlled dampers by ZF, revised coil springs, and rear stabilizer bushes. Stopping power has also been improved thanks to drilled and ventilated discs on all four wheels, special brake pads, and Brembo six-pot brake calipers at the front.

Sharper Aero, New Seats

The new model rides on a new set of 19-inch STI Flexible Performance wheels from BBS, which are shod in stickier Michelin tires (255/35R19). Besides the S210 badges, it also features more prominent aero components.

Aggressive Looks With a Purpose

If the performance enhancements don’t grab your attention, the S210’s aero kit will. A massive dry carbon rear wing sits proudly at the back, complemented by a front splitter, sculpted side skirts, and a pronounced rear diffuser—all finished in Crystal Black Silica. A Cherry Red stripe on the grille adds a touch of drama, while S210 badging and STI emblems remind everyone this isn’t your average WRX.

Inside, the highlight is the motorsport-inspired Recaro seats, featuring carbon backrests, Nappa leather upholstery, and eight-way power adjustments. The black theme is combined with red accents, STI emblems and an S210 serial number plate.

Limited Numbers, Big Questions

The Subaru WRX STI S210 will be produced in limited number of 500 units. Specific details about its availability will be announced in spring 2025. At the moment, it is not clear whether the special edition will be exclusive to Japan or if some units will be allocated to other markets.
