- Nissan dealerships need to reconfigure the vehicle’s Body Control Module.
- The onboard computer may not remind the driver to Shift-to-Park after turning the ignition off.
- Fortunately for Nissan, the recall impacts just 20 examples of the 2025 Kicks.
A software issue with select 2025 Nissan Kicks models in the United States put them at an increased risk of rolling away and has forced the car manufacturer to issue a recall. Fortunately, Nissan does not appear to be aware of any accidents caused by the fault, but that doesn’t mean owners of impacted models shouldn’t take the recall seriously.
Nissan says that on certain Kicks delivered, ‘Shift-to-Park’ warnings may not be activated when the driver turns the vehicle ignition off, even if the vehicle isn’t in Park. While most drivers probably don’t need to be reminded to switch to Park, warnings like this are a useful feature to those forgetful folk out there.

The recall notice points out that if vehicles are turned off and not placed in Park, there’s an increased chance of them rolling away. That could spell bad news for occupants and pedestrians, who may have to jump out of the way of a runaway Nissan.
The issue stems from a problem with the vehicle’s Body Control Module (BCM). Nissan has instructed dealerships to reconfigure the BCM to ensure the Shift-to-Park warning is activated appropriately. Owners will be notified of the recall from January 29.
Fortunately for the Japanese company, just 20 examples of the 2025 Nissan Kicks are impacted by the recall. All were manufactured between June 24, 2024, and November 29, 2024.
Nissan introduced the thoroughly redesigned Kicks in March last year. It has a more upscale design than its predecessor and is sold exclusively with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine pumping out 141 hp and 140 lb-ft (190 Nm) of torque. This engine works alongside a continuously variable transmission that drives either the front wheels or all four wheels. Prices start at $21,830 and top out at $27,680, excluding destination.
