• A sheriff’s deputy in Florida has resigned following a crash involving porn.
  • The deputy rear-ended another vehicle and originally said his brakes locked up.
  • An investigation eventually found he was looking at inappropriate pictures on his phone.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is there to protect and serve, but one deputy was apparently more interested in self pleasure. That ultimately led to their downfall as they were caught looking at “pornographic material” right before an accident.

According to WESH, the incident occurred on November 6 on County Road 435 in Sorrento, Florida. Body camera footage obtained by the station shows Deputy Tristan Macomber driving and suddenly turning the wheel before the airbag deploys.

While this simply looks like an accident, things took an interesting turn. According to the station, the deputy claimed the vehicle he hit was stopped for a school bus and the “brakes on his patrol vehicle locked up.” He also claimed the anti-lock braking system light had been on since a recent repair.

Unfortunately for him, the sheriff’s office didn’t take his word for it. Quite the opposite as an internal investigation quickly reviewed his body camera footage, which appeared to show the deputy holding a phone in his right hand. Macomber reportedly said he looked at text messages from colleagues, but the investigation determined these were pictures and not messages.

The deputy later recanted part of his story and reportedly acknowledged he was looking at “inappropriate pictures” on his personal smartphone. These were later determined to be pornographic and said to be the main reason for the crash.

That’s not exactly on the job behavior and officials reportedly faulted Macomber for using a handheld electronic device, not wearing a seatbelt, and not being truthful. The station says he was facing termination, but resigned before it came to that.
