• The rider attempted to overtake a red sedan but ended up hitting its mirror.
  • After losing control, the bike slammed into a dirt embankment, flying into the air.
  • The accident underlines the importance of riding defensively while on a motorbike.

A motorcyclist has been lucky to survive a terrifying crash after clipping the wing mirror of a red sedan and narrowly avoiding a group of cyclists. While we don’t envy the biker – nor anyone involved in the accident – we get to watch how a wrong decision can have dire consequences.

The video, which made its rounds on Reddit after being originally shared by Fenexito, apparently a keen motorcycle enthusiast, on Instagram, shows a tense moment where everything almost goes horribly wrong. It’s unclear whether he’s sharing his own terrifying experience or someone else’s, but the outcome is the same. The clip underscores just how quickly things can go south on public roads when poor judgment takes the wheel.

In the video, the rider can be seen taking a left-hand bend at high speed and attempting to overtake a red car towards the shoulder of the road. Perhaps unbeknownst to the motorcyclist, it seems the car was slightly veering to the right, directly into the path of the bike. The rider is unable to avoid the vehicle and hits its wing mirror, ripping it clean off and sending them off towards the edge of the road.

While the motorcyclist initially stays upright, they cross into a section of dirt and then slam into a small dirt embankment. This sends him – and the motorcycle – flying through the air. The situation could have been much, much worse, as a group of cyclists was directly in front of the motorcycle, and the rider narrowly avoids colliding with them.

It makes for a frightening thing to watch, and the video even captures the moment the biker slowly gets back to their feet after the huge impact. Fortunately for them, they appear to have been wearing a full leather suit.

Although the driver of the red car may have veered slightly to the right, there’s little doubt that the biker’s actions were the primary cause of the crash. In fact, there was a lane to the left of the car that the rider could have used, rather than trying to overtake along the shoulder.

As a motorcyclist myself, with over a decade of riding experience having owned four sports bikes, I was always taught to treat cars like lava—stay as far away from them as possible. Had this rider given the car more space, they likely would have avoided the crash altogether.
