Ford has a rich history of thrilling crate engines, and it’s just unveiled two more, one of which is restricted to competition use and one that gives the fabled Coyote V8 almost as much grunt as the Mustang GTD. The mightiest of the two engines is known as the Megazilla 2.0, so let’s dive into it first.

This isn’t the first time Ford has offered a Megazilla engine. The first iteration of the 7.3-liter V8 is good for 612 hp but the Megazilla 2.0 takes things to an entirely new level. It now features a Gen 6 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger and the results are astonishing.

This massive blower is combined with forged pistons, connecting pods, ported and polished cylinder heads, upgraded valve springs, and a steel crank, enabling a monstrous output of more than 1,000 hp. Sadly, you won’t be able to install this engine in your F-150. Ford says it’s restricted to competition use and could suit desert racers and drag cars.

Ford Megazilla 2.0

Rev heads looking for something road-legal will be more interested in Ford’s second new crate engine. It’s based on the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 of the new Mustang Dark Horse with 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. But for this application, the engine is offered with a 3.0-liter blower bolted to it, resulting in 800 hp and a targetted 615 lb-ft of torque. Those figures aren’t far off the Mustang GTD’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

Both the Megazilla 2.0 and the supercharged Coyote crate engines include a wiring harness, and the 5.0-liter mill also comes with a two-year / 24,000-mile limited warranty. The engines will be available to order through local Ford dealers and from Ford Performance Parts in the fourth quarter of 2025.

No prices have been announced. However, the naturally aspirated Megazilla currently sells for $22,995, so it’s reasonable to expect the Megazilla 2.0 to command a hefty premium over that.
