• Rivian has released a handful of teasers that hint at a hardcore R1T.
  • The model will debut on February 19 and it might be the rumored R1X.
  • While nothing is official, a rugged model could help to battle Scout and Hummer.

Rivian has something up their sleeve as they’ve released a series of teasers across social media and email. Starting with the former, we were sent a message saying “something’s shifting on the horizon” and it was accompanied by a teaser image with text reading “A mirage take shape Feb 19.”

The image appears to show a sand dune out a window, but it’s too small to be the rear quarter glass from either the R1S or R2S. However, there’s a good reason for this because it’s not a window at all. Quite the opposite as the image shows a glimpse through the R1T’s gear tunnel.

The rest of the teasers are similarly hard to decipher as one shows tire tracks in the desert, while another shows spikes sticking out of the sand. The fourth image is a tad more revealing as its sculpted cladding appears to be from an R1T or R1S.

That’s not a lot to go on, but some fans have speculated the teasers could be related to a Dakar Rally announcement. Another noted the reveal comes just one day before the company’s 2024 earnings report, suggesting the model could be a distraction from less than stellar numbers.

Rivian Appears To Be Teasing A Hardcore R1T

The latter remains to be seen, but Rivian has previously revealed they produced 49,476 vehicles last year and delivered 51,579 units. They added the numbers were “in line with management’s full-year 2024 guidance of 47,000 to 49,000 vehicles produced and 50,500 to 52,000 vehicles delivered.”

While only time will tell what Rivian has planned, the company has been rumored to be working on a hardcore R1X. It’s expected to be a rugged, trail-ready version of the R1S, R1T, or perhaps even both. It would be a logical addition to the lineup and something to help fend off outdoorsy models from Hummer and Scout.
