• The Ferrari driver says he swerved to avoid another car and slammed into a highway barrier.
  • All four wheels of the F8 have been damaged and the front bumper has taken a heavy hit.
  • Police officers responding to the scene helped to safely guide the supercar off Interstate 10.

You see some weird things in Los Angeles and earlier this month, a Ferrari F8 Spider was badly damaged in a crash in the city. While that alone isn’t unusual given how many exotics are in LA, what’s bizarre about this incident is that the driver of the Italian exotic was ordered to drive it off Interstate 10 by the police, rather than waiting for it to be towed.

The incident happened on February 2 at approximately 5 a.m. According to the driver of the Ferrari, he swerved while avoiding another car on the highway but lost control of the Italian supercar and slammed into the concrete center divider.

The damage done to the car is enough to make a grown man weep. We can see that the hood has been forced open, the windshield smashed, and both tires on the passenger side have been knocked out of place. An officer can be heard asking the man if the car turns on and cranks. He promptly fires it up and is instructed to slowly drive it to the nearest highway exit. It makes for a truly bizarre sight.

Shortly after getting off the Interstate, we get a good look at the damage done to the driver’s side. The rear wheel has been badly bent and mangled, the front bumper smashed, and one of the headlights has been knocked out of position. The force of the impact was also enough to trigger the airbags.

It’s unclear if the driver of the car is also the owner, but regardless, he’ll likely have to cough up an eye-watering sum to the car’s insurer. Is the F8 repairable? It’s hard to say without seeing it in person, but things like bumpers and wheels can be easily replaced. However, there’s a good chance it’ll still be totaled, particularly if damage has been done to expensive parts like the suspension and brakes.
