• Mitsubishi has announced that a new Grandis will debut in July for the European market.
  • The model is a rebadged version of the Renault Symbioz, which is a longer Captur.
  • The new Grandis be available with mild- and full-hybrid powertrains.

Mitsubishi has revealed the name of its latest Renault-based SUV for Europe that will be called Grandis. The model was teased ahead of its debut in July 2025, promising a family-friendly character and electrified powertrain options.

The original Mitsubishi Grandis (a Latin word for “large” and “impressive”) was a three-row seven-seater minivan sold between 2003 and 2011. The new generation will be a rebadged version of the Renault Symbioz compact SUV, targeting “young families”. In other words, the Grandis will be a longer and more practical alternative to the Mitsubishi ASX, which is a twin to the Renault Captur.

The new teasers reveal the grille and the tailgate of the Grandis, which is expected to share most of its exterior and interior design with the 4,413-mm (173.7 inches) long Renault Symbioz. Besides the name and the emblems, model-specific features of the SUV will include a redesigned grille and a “fresh iteration” of the “Dynamic Shield” face.

According to Mitsubishi, the Grandis will offer a “roomy and versatile” interior, likely matching the boot capacity of the Renault. The latter ranges between 492-624 lt (17.4-22 cubic feet) thanks to a sliding rear bench. Equipment will include a full suite of ADAS and a Google built-in 10.4-inch infotainment.

The SUV will ride on the CMF-B architecture, which is shared with the Mitsubishi Colt and ASX, the Renault Clio, Captur, Symbioz, and Arkana, the Nissan Micra and Juke, as well as the entire Dacia lineup. It will be available with mild-hybrid and full hybrid powertrain options, again borrowed from Renault.

Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Grandis will debut in July, ahead of its market launch in Europe in late Autumn 2025.

The Grandis will soon be joined by a yet-unnamed compact SUV with a fully electric powertrain. This will be Mitsubishi’s version of the Renault Scenic E-Tech, which is set to arrive later in 2025. As with the Mitsubishi Colt and ASX, the Grandis and the new EV will be manufactured in Europe by the Renault Group.
