• The 2006 Jeep Wrangler X houses an 8.3-liter Viper V10 engine under the hood.
  • It features Dana 60 axles, a dual-range transfer case, and enhanced suspension.
  • The custom build recently sold for $34,000 on Bring a Trailer’s auction platform.

This TJ Jeep Wrangler X looks pretty cute, right? The two-door off-roader is finished in a shade of white and sits on 17-inch wheels with 35-inch BFGoodrich Baja T/A tires. It looks like the perfect Jeep to cruise along a beach, trundle through town, or take up a difficult off-road trail. However, hidden beneath the skin is an engine that should make this thing an absolute animal on a drag strip, too.

The Jeep recently traded hands on Bring a Trailer, fetching $34,000. Sure, the current Wrangler Rubicon 392 with its 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is cool, but this one is powered by the giant 8.3-liter naturally-aspirated V10 from a Dodge Viper. We have no idea how that huge engine was squeezed under the hood, but somehow it was.

Coupled with the Viper’s V10 is a four-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels. There are Dana 60 axles at the front and rear, a dual-range transfer case, and roughly 500 hp on tap – more than enough to rip your face off.

This TJ Jeep Wrangler Hides A Viper V10 Secret

Inside the cabin is a full-roll cage, a custom dashboard, and new seats trimmed in black and red leather. There’s also a Clarion audio system, a pair of subwoofers, and a newly trimmed dashboard and center console. Plenty of attention has been paid to the suspension setup, too, including Dirt Logic coilovers at the front, Pro Comp shocks at the rear, and adjustable sway bars. Bigger brakes have also been fitted, which is a must, given the power increase over a standard Wrangler.

This Jeep has apparently been driven roughly 2,200 miles (3,540 km) since the engine swap. It sold for $34,000, and while that’s a lot for a 2006 Wrangler, it doesn’t seem unreasonable, given the performance this thing delivers.
