- Shelby installed a new 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, intercooler, and heat exchanger.
- Carbon fiber parts and 20-inch wheels make the GT500KR look even more aggressive.
- Only two GT500KRs exist in Eruption Green Metallic, with this one heading to auction.
The old Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was already a powerhouse — 760 horsepower from a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine is no joke. But if that wasn’t enough for you, Shelby American took it up a notch with an even more extreme variant called the GT500KR. Produced in a limited run of just 180 units over three years, one of the 60 built in 2022 is now heading to the auction block this month. If you’ve got deep pockets and a love for raw muscle, keep reading.
This Mustang Shelby GT500KR is one of only two units finished in Eruption Green Metallic and looks absolutely superb. In building the KR, Shelby heavily revised the bodywork of the normal GT500, crafting a new carbon fiber hood with lots of air extraction vents. It also added a carbon front splitter, carbon side skirts, a gurney flap on the rear spoiler, and new 20-inch forged wheels.

Of more importance than the visual changes are the mechanical upgrades. Shelby went to town on the muscle car’s 5.2-liter V8, fitting a new 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, a beefed-up intercooler, and a new heat exchanger. There’s also a cold air intake and a Borla catback exhaust, helping the car pump out 900 hp. Not only is that 140 hp more than the stock GT500, but it’s also 85 hp more than even the new track-focused Mustang GTD. And all that power? It’s sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Shelby’s modifications didn’t stop there. The company also fitted height adjustable springs, performance half-shafts, recalibrated the MagneRide suspension, fitted caster and camber plates, and added Ford Performance sway bars. Contrasting the green paint of this car are Star White Metallic hood stripes and accents.

Inside, Shelby didn’t slack off either. The interior is stripped for performance, with a back seat delete and leather seats that have been trimmed for added style. To complement the car’s Eruption Green Metallic exterior, there’s a harness bar in the same color inside.
Mecum Auctions is handling the sale of this rare pony, and it’s going to be interesting to see how much it fetches. When new, the GT500KR package added $54,995 on top of the price of a standard GT500. That price tag seems almost quaint now, considering the insane upgrades. If you’re in the market for a car that’s loud, fast, and exclusive—well, this is one to watch. You can check out the full listing here.
