• The new Morgan Supersport joins the Super 3 and the Plus 4 in the lineup.
  • It rides on an upgraded chassis, retaining a BMW-sourced inline-six.
  • It combines a sleeker aluminum bodywork with a more practical interior.

Morgan has unveiled the Supersport, its new flagship model and successor to the Plus Six. While it retains a familiar silhouette, it introduces fresh styling cues, with usability and chassis enhancements that bring it closer to mainstream competitors like Porsche and Aston Martin.

The exterior design of the Morgan Supersport is cleaner and more aerodynamic compared to its predecessor, without breaking away from tradition. The front end features a sportier bumper and larger LED headlights with integrated indicators.

The horseshoe grille leads to the long vented hood, snugged in between the retro fenders. The standard 18-inch Superlite wheels can be swapped for the optional 19-inch forged aluminum Aerolite wheels, adding style while reducing unsprung weight.

The dropping tail has also been modernized, with low-mounted LED taillights housed within the diffuser, alongside the dual exhaust pipes. Besides the standard folding mohair soft top, the roadster is also available with an interchangeable carbon composite hard top, effectively transforming it into a coupe.

Staying true to the original recipe, the body is made of aluminum, hand-formed over an ash wood frame. According to the company, 60% of the aluminum used on the body and chassis is made from recycled material.

The interior looks very similar to the Plus Six with countless options for the Scottish leather upholstery and the wood trim. However, Morgan designers have increased the storage space behind the seats, together with the addition of a glovebox, a small boot, and an optional luggage rack. While we don’t know the capacity of the Supersport’s boot, the company claims it provides “ample room for sidescreen stowage and overnight bags”.

Interior amenities include an improved audio system by Sennheiser, a wireless charging pouch on the center console, and hands-free calling, which is a first for the brand. These changes make the Supersport more suitable for weekend getaways, representing an evolution compared to its spartan predecessors.

Upgraded Underpinnings

The Supersport rides on the CXV aluminum spaceframe chassis, which is more rigid compared to the previous CX. The new chassis is combined with a new steering system for improved response, and a reworked suspension featuring longer travel. As a result, the Supersport is said to offer a more engaging driving experience, while being more liveable.

For those who want an even sportier setup, Morgan offers the option of adjustable Nitron dampers and a limited-slip differential. Despite the upgrades, the car retains a low kerb weight of 1,170 kg (2,579 pounds).

Under the hood, you’ll find a BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, delivering 335 hp (340 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque — the same output as the now-discontinued Morgan Plus Six. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Pricing And Availability

The Morgan Supersport is priced from £85,000 ($110,000) before taxes, translating to an on-the-road price of £105,160 ($136,000) in the UK. Optional extras, like the £6,600 ($8,500) Aerolite wheels or the £3,000 ($3,900) Active Sport Exhaust, can push the price higher.

As with its predecessor, each Supersport will be hand-built at Morgan’s Pickersleigh Road facilities. Orders are now being accepted, with the first examples expected to reach UK dealers for test drives in mid-April.
