• Stellantis’ latest Drive for Design contest asks high school students to envision the Chrysler of the future.
  • Students can let their imaginations run wild and entries can be submitted until midnight on April 25.
  • The winner will receive an Apple iPad Pro as well as a summer design internship at the Ram design studio.

Stellantis has a dizzying number of brands, but Chrysler might be the weakest link. Its lineup consists of the nearly decade old Pacifica as well as the Voyager, which itself is just a pre-facelift Pacifica.

Given that dreadful lineup, it’s not surprising U.S. sales were down 7% last year to 124,683 units. That number pales in comparison to the 308,785 vehicles that were sold in 2014.

With Chrysler appearing as aimless and irrelevant as ever, they’re turning to high school students to help generate buzz. As part of this effort, this year’s Drive for Design contest is asking students to create their dream vehicle from Chrysler.

The contest is open to U.S. high school students in grades 10-12. They’ll have to create a futuristic interior or exterior design and submit it – in .pdf, .jpg or .png format – to StellantisDriveForDesign.com before midnight on April 25.

Chrysler Wants High Schoolers To Design The Car Of The Future

Winners will be announced on April 30 and entries will be judged on craftsmanship, quality, illustration, and originality. There’s a lot on the line as the first place winner will be offered a summer design internship at the Ram design studio. They’ll also receive an Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil as well as an invitation to serve as a student judge at the EyesOn Design car show in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

Second and third place finishers miss out on the internship, but get an iPad Pro and Pencil as well as a virtual networking opportunity with the Stellantis Design Team. They’ll also receive a scholarship to a Transportation Design program at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.

That’s enough to get students on the right path for a career in design and Stellantis noted previous winners have eventually gone on to join their design team as paid employees.
