This dashcam footage captured an incident that could have ended much more horribly, as the out of control SUV narrowly missed a police officer who was already on site.
The officer can be seen walking back to his cruiser just seconds before the SUV comes sliding into that red sedan. If he was there at the moment of impact, he would have been pinned between the car and the concrete barrier.
The SUV hit the car initially, then spun backwards into the tow truck’s already-lowered platform, which is what caused it to violently flip over onto its roof, before coming to a rest on its side. According to the description of the video, nobody was seriously harmed.
Now, what might cause somebody to lose control like that on a straight, two-lane patch of road, is kind of a mystery. The vehicle was clearly carrying a lot of speed and its driver has totally lost control, as can be heard from the screeching tires just before impact.
Had that truck not been there, the SUV would have probably just kept spinning, even after hitting that stationary car. We’re pretty sure that would have been the preferable scenario for its owner, though he/she must consider him/herself lucky that they didn’t hit the officer which, at that speed, would have resulted in serious injury – or worse…
