After being in production since 2014, two years later than the current Mercedes-Benz B-Class, the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer have been given a few updates.

The German automaker chose the 2018 Geneva Motor Show to present them to the world, although their revised styling is very soft, to say the least. So, unless one is into premium people carriers, then they most likely won’t be able to tell what’s new.

But before that, let’s remind ourselves that both models carry a larger grille and intakes at the front, modified headlights and taillights and new LED fog lamps. Two new exterior colors are available as well, alongside new wheel patterns, 16- to 19-inch in size, and this is where exterior changes end.

BMW claims that the cockpit is now more driver-oriented, with a dual-screen layout. Elsewhere, the two minivans have longer seat cushions for greater comfort, while customers can choose between different combinations of cloth, Alcantara and Dakota leather, among others.

The engine lineup went through some changes of its own, which focus on improving CO2 emissions. Four-cylinder diesels have two turbochargers and all oil burners get a particulate filter.

With a combined output of 224PS (221hp / 165kW) and 385Nm (284lb-ft) of torque, the 2-Series Active Tourer 225XE iPerformance combines a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with an electric motor and a 7.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It starts from £34,485 ($46,628) in the United Kingdom.
