Drag racing enthusiasts know that whenever a tuned old car lines up at the start line alongside a supercar, the outcome is unpredictable.
And for good reason, as owners of these older cars spend a small fortune in making them as fast as possible, oftentimes without tampering with the exterior design too much. This is how sleepers, true wolves in sheep’s clothing, are born.
The internet has made these drag races seem almost common. But when you’re surfing on YouTube and see the words ‘VW Golf 2‘, ‘Nissan GT-R‘ and ‘drag race’ used in the same sentence, it’s hard to resist pushing the Play button.
And so have we, only to find a heavily tuned compact hot hatch that has more power than, say… a Lamborghini Aventador.

735 horsepower – that’s how much this Volkswagen Golf Mk2 has, not to mention a lighter construction compared to its challenger, a Nissan GT-R. And when you bring the power-to-weight ratio into discussion, it’s pretty obvious that the balance tilts towards the Golf, which, like its rival, boasts all-wheel drive, too.
