Former Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg has remained extremely involved with his YouTube channel – which is a good thing, as we get treated to some special rides.
Since winning his title in 2016, and retiring immediately afterwards, the German driver has been on somewhat of a roll content-wise, traveling to all sorts of glamorous events, driving really nice cars, and from time to time, even getting out on a race track or two.
Recently, he was in Berlin and got the chance to drive a BMW i8 safety car, normally tasked with leading the field during Formula E races.
It features a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-pot with 231 PS (227 HP), a 143 PS (141 HP) electric motor and a 11.6 kWh battery. Add everything together and you get 374 PS (368 HP) and a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of just 4.4 seconds. The safety car also boasts stiffer suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, bucket seats from the M4 GTS, four-point harnesses, a roll cage, carbon-fiber aero kit, custom livery and emergency lighting on the roof.
The best part about it, however, is its inductive charging system. Instead of plugging it in, you can just park it on top of a special plate and charge it to 80% in just one hour.
As for Rosberg’s co-pilot during this spirited run on the track, it was none other than model and actress Emily Ratajkowski, who seemed to enjoy herself a lot alongside the former Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver. Well, Rosberg might have retired from F1 but he certainly hasn’t lost any of his skills behind the wheel.
