The Honda S2000 will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year and, despite its age, still looks fresh and offers exhilarating performance and driving thrills. For some, however, a stock S2000 is not quite special enough.

Engineering Explained has owned and shot videos of this bright yellow S2000 for well over a year now, and recently decided to up the ante and fit a supercharger.

The supercharger selected comes from Science Of Speed. It is a centrifugal design and somewhat resembles a turbocharger when installed. All up, it took roughly 14 hours to fit and also includes a FVM controller to handle the fuel, VTEC variable valve control and MAP tuning.

This particular setup adds roughly 100 HP at 6 PSI of boost and is a relatively tame upgrade. A plethora of other supercharging kits are available and it’s not uncommon for the more extreme ones to deliver in excess of 500 HP.

When left stock, the screaming four-cylinder engine is one of the finest engines of its sort. However, like any naturally-aspirated performance Honda, the S2000 doesn’t have much of torque or horsepower below 4,000 revs. Supercharging takes care of the torque issue and, unlike turbocharging, offers a steady stream of low-end torque without any lag.

What say you: does this make for the perfect S2K, or should the manic four be left unmolested?
