BMW currently has six high-riding vehicles in its lineup: the X1, X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6. A seventh one is coming, too, in the form of the X7, and there have been talks about a possible X8.
Moreover, the Munich car brand is also planning several iX models to rival the Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace and others. Thus, one might think that BMW has covered pretty much everything when it comes to crossovers and SUVs.

But not so fast, as they could tap deeper into the crossover niches with a convertible variant that would go after the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. DigitalTrends talked to the company’s chief of product planning and strategy, Ralph Mahler, who commented on a possible open-top SUV by saying:
“It’s a really interesting topic. All these kinds of question we have asked ourselves in the past. Whether or not there is a possibility, whether or not there is a market. You see the lineup at the moment. We don’t have one, but nevertheless, I think it’s still an interesting question.”

We wouldn’t really bet on a BMW convertible SUV, though, as the brand’s officials were asked about a possible pickup truck when the Mercedes-Benz X-Class was launched. Back then, they didn’t completely deny it, but we still haven’t seen it.
Then again, Volkswagen already announced a cabriolet version of the T-Roc, which will arrive in the second half of 2020. So, never say never, right?
