As much as you might love the new Mercedes CLS or the Audi A7, it’s obvious that neither of the two are as practical or as spacious as the new BMW 6-Series GT.
Of course, buying a large, stylish family car isn’t always about practicality, because if it was, then this 6-Series GT might just start making sense to a lot more people. Among its more casual fans is Carwow reviewer, Mat Watson, who came away relatively impressed.
From interior quality to overall roominess, the 6-Series GT seems to really have its house in order. You can easily fit in the front seats regardless of how tall you are, while still having plenty of room for rear-seat passengers.
Then there’s the trunk, boasting a massive 610 liters (21.5 cu.ft) without the rear seats folded, and 1,800 liters (63.5 cu.ft) with the bench laying flat – by the way, the buttons you need to press order to drop the rear seats are well-positioned at an arm’s length inside the trunk.
Behind the wheel, you might notice that this isn’t your typical BMW as far as driving dynamics are concerned. Watson goes on to talk about the lack of steering feel and the overall heaviness of the car, yet in the end, he still found it comfortable. Unfortunately, there were a few other negatives to speak of, such as wind and tire noise or the massive blind spot generated by the A-pillars.
As for the engine in this 640i xDrive, it gets the job done quite well thanks to its 340 PS (335 HP) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. In a straight line, this 1,910 kg (4,210 lbs) car can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.3 seconds. A diesel version however might be better suited to your needs, generally speaking.
