Peugeot wants social media users to “break the code” and uncover the identity of an entirely new vehicle that’s coming later this year.

We played a bit with the video posted by the French automaker on Twitter, and after flipping over one of the images, we quickly realized it’s very likely the new 508 SW.

The second variant of the 508, after the liftback version that debuted in Geneva, is expected to premiere at the beginning of October during the 2018 Paris Auto Show.

Offered with an identical front end and cabin as the already available 508, the estate will have a longer rear overhang and specific tailgate. Thanks to its new configuration, the boot capacity will significantly increase over the liftback’s 487 liters (17.2 cu-ft), with the rear seats up.

Peugeot’s rival to the likes of the Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and Skoda Superb estates should also benefit from the same engine lineup as its sibling. Thus, expect the usual petrol and diesel units, making between 128PS (126hp / 94kW) and 222PS (219hp / 163kW).

There have been talks about a beefier version of the new Peugeot 508, which could use the same powertrain as the 308 GTI, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, rated at 275PS (271hp / 202kW).

A hybrid variant is also on the cards, and if the car firm decides to give them the green light for production, then we don’t see why they won’t be adopted by the Peugeot 508 SW, too.
