As we edge closer to the launch of the G70 compact executive sedan, Genesis has released more details as well as some performance figures on its brand new 3 Series-rivaling four-door car.
The much awaited 2019 Genesis G70 premium sport sedan wants to reset the segment’s benchmarks by offering class-leading driver-focused performance, refined luxury, as well as attractive and athletic styling.
Genesis says that the G70 has among the strongest body structures in the segment, with its architecture making strategic use of aluminum, high-grade steel and aerospace-grade adhesives.
The new Genesis G70 also has the lowest overall height and widest overall stance in the segment, giving it exceptional dynamic performance. Aerodynamically-speaking, the new compact premium saloon returns a sleek 0.28Cd drag coefficient.
Entry-level models will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with direct injection producing 252hp and 260lb-ft (352 Nm) of peak torque. The turbo-four engine will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard but more keen drivers will be happy to find out that Genesis will also offer a six-speed manual in the options list.
Manual G70s will be offered with a performance package that includes a slightly more powerful engine (255hp over 252hp), a unique sport exhaust system, high-performance Brembo brakes and additional weight reduction measures. Genesis didn’t offer more details on that last part.
The range-topping twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 version will offer 365hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm) of peak torque, which will be available only with the eight-speed auto transmission. Combine this with the standard mechanical limited-slip differential -optional in the turbo four variant- and Genesis’ Launch Control, and the rear-drive G70 V6 can hit 60mph in 4.5 seconds.
Both engines will be offered with all-wheel drive as an option too. Genesis says that the combination of a rear mechanical limited-slip differential with all-wheel drive is unique in the segment and provides sharper handling than its main competitors.
Expect more details, as well as pricing information in the next few weeks as we get closer to the new Genesis G70’s launch.
