Ex-Porsche race car engineer Alexander Hitzinger, the man who helped the German automaker return to Le Mans victoriously, is now the latest auto specialist to be recruited by tech giant Apple.

According to Autonews, neither Apple, nor Porsche could be reached for comment, but the latter did confirm Hitzinger had left the company last spring.

Hitzinger helped develop the 919 hybrid sports car from scratch, which is somewhat similar to what Apple are looking to do with their own vehicle – start from the ground up. Hitzinger also helped hire and build a development team and organizational structure at Porsche, expanding the staff from ten to over 150 employees.

The ex-Porsche man was also quoted by Manager Magazin, saying that he wanted to do something “which has a significant and direct impact on society,” though at no point did he confirm he was working for Apple.

As of right now, it’s unclear what type of car Apple will be producing. Their ongoing “Project Titan” recently hit a road block as the tech-giant decided to switch up their autonomous driving system.
