Not satisfied with unveiling the new Amarok to local press, Volkswagen Australia decided create a Mad Max-inspired off-roader with the underpinnings of the Amarok.

The bold creation, dubbed the Korama, was designed by the same man responsible for the insane creations from Mad Max: Fury Road and looks absolutely nothing like the vehicle it is based around.

To get customers interested in the model, VW recruited local enthusiasts to test out the model’s off-road prowess. As you’d expect, they were suitably impressed by how well the bold creation performed in rough terrain but unbeknownst to them, it featured the production-spec mechanicals of the 2016 Amarok pickup.

In Australia, the new model has a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V6 engine delivering 224 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. An overboost function that adds 20 hp is also featured.

In a statement, director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Carlos Santos, said “Having Mad Max: Fury Road’s mad genius design the Korama for us was a real coup and I think what was created has captured all of our imaginations. After all, who else could design something as tough as the Amarok?”
