With the recently unveiled GT Roadster and GT C Roadster, and the beastly GT R, the AMG GT family counts five members, but a sixth one is lurking in the R&D department.

Set to adopt the Black Series moniker and to show its fangs in 2018, it was confirmed by the Mercedes-AMG chief Tobias Moers, who sat down with TopGear to talk on the matter.

Theoretically, we’re working on a Black Series, putting together all our ideas on what we can do for the car, but I don’t just want an overpowered machine“, Moers said. “I guess just adding another aero element to the GT R is not enough for a Black Series. I do have some ideas.

What exactly his ideas are is anyone’s guess at this point, but if we were to speculate, we’d say that the usual aerodynamic upgrades will help set it apart from a visual point of view, joined probably by suspension and brakes updates. As far as power goes, Moers did have something to add, which only deepens the mystery.

I know the GT R chassis is able to handle more power, but we have 585 PS (577 HP) in the GT R, and 612 PS (603 HP) in the E63.

The AMG GT R needs just 3.6 seconds to go from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph), which is exactly the same as the SLS AMG Coupe Black Series, so how fast do you think the new range-topper will be?
