Besides the usual batch of sedans, estates, hatchbacks and SUVs, Mercedes-Benz is also working on a new generation of the popular Sprinter van series.

Currently in test mule form, the van was scooped in two body styles, a commercial van and a people carrier. Once the automaker is satisfied will all the updates, the entire Sprinter family is expected to go under the knife, meaning that the Chassis Cab and Dropside will be part of the updated lineup as well.

The van is believed to get a new front fascia, mirroring other new cars in the German company’s portfolio, while inside, an entirely different design is expected, along with newer tech features.

Previous reports have said that the adoption of an electric powertrain and autonomous driving technology could be in the works, but these rumors have yet to be confirmed. What we can expect, however, are new driver assistance systems, and engine revisions.

An exact reveal date is still far from being announced, but the most plausible scenario sees the next generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter debuting close to the end of next year.
