Opel may have already started dropping teasers of the upcoming Insignia ahead of its official reveal this December, but our spies had a close encounter with yet another prototype and more specifically the Sport Tourer wagon version.

It looks like the driver of the camouflaged prototype was caught by the traffic lights, enabling our photographer to snap a few close ups of GM’s new global model, set to wear the Opel, Buick, Holden and Vauxhall badges.

Just like the last estate prototype we spotted, this one tries to mask its sloping roofline with a fake body panel. Opel is aiming to give the new Insignia Sport Tourer a sexier shape instead of maximum cargo capacity.

We also know that there will be a Country Tourer version as well, which is Opel talk for a jacked-up, off-road oriented version in the same vein with the Passat Alltrack and the E-Class All-Terrain.

Based on GM’s E2 architecture, the new Insignia will be lighter by up to 175kg compared to the current model and despite the increased dimensions, including a massive 9cm addition to the wheelbase.

Opel’s range-topping version in Europe will be called the Grand Sport, at least until the OPC version arrives. The Grand Sport will be powered by a 247hp turbo 2.0-litre petrol engine, sending its power to all four wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox. Torque vectoring will also be present. Entry-level models will feature a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol while there’s going to be a wider selection of diesel engines available.
