When it was launched in 1995, the Ferrari F50 was heavily criticized for its intimidating, hard, harsh ride and wasn’t compared favorably to its predecessor, the revered F40. It took some time for the world to recognize its worth.

The flagship Ferrari was a mirror of the car maker’s motorsport expertise, offering a similar experience for the road. It was basic, it required skill to control at relatively high speeds, and it was the last breed of super Prancing Horses to offer a manual transmission.

Although Ferrari boasted, at the time, that it had the engine from an F1 car, the 4.7-litre V12 was actually borrowed from the 333 SP Dallara-built racing prototype.

With only 349 units ever made, the F50 is also one of the rarest creations to come out of Maranello and one of only five “specials” built so far, from the 288 GTO to today’s LaFerrari. So, owning one is like owning a piece of art, but we’ll let you watch the video below and see for yourselves.
