These are the first spy photos of the next-generation Opel/Vauxhall Corsa undertaking some development driving on public roads.

With the current model essentially being a heavy facelift of the Corsa that debuted back in 2006, Opel is working on an all-new successor in order to compete in a segment that in most cases already has newer developed cars.

Opel’s main target is the Ford Fiesta, which is also under development right now, but the Fiesta is probably going to hit the market sooner than the compact Opel which is rumoured for launch in 2018.

The photos show an early prototype of the new Corsa heavily camouflaged, with the front end wearing a pair of slimmer headlights accompanies by a smaller set of lights, right below them. Overall it’s hard to figure out what Opel has in store for the Corsa but the whole shape and size of it will remain more or less the same.

The new supermini is expected to run on an all-new platform that’s going to shed some weight off its shoulders and increase the available space inside while the engine range will include three- and four-cylinder engines.

It’s still unknown if the company will make a three-door version of the Corsa as the current trend is clearly in favor of the five-door bodystyle only. What we do know is that GM will make a four-door sedan out of it which is likely to wear some Buick badges for markets like China or even Chevrolet’s.
