The latest Renault Megane RS is set to stick to its enthusiast’s roots and come standard with a manual transmission.

The news, revealed by Motoring, says that a six-speed will come standard and that a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will be optional. Additionally, the new car will adopt a four-wheel steering system aimed at making the model even more capable.

According to an insider working closely with the automaker, “For the new Megane RS it’s crucial to offer both transmissions, especially for some markets where enthusiast buyers were put off buying the Clio because it lacks a manual gearbox.”

Interestingly, it is said that in terms of acceleration, tests of the new Megane RS have shown that the manual variant is actually quicker, due to the additional weight of the dual-clutch ‘box.

As with some other manual cars on the market, such as the Porsche Cayman GT4 and Nissan 370Z, the new Megane RS will have an auto rev-match system.

As for the four-wheel steering, it is expected to be offered as an option and could prove popular among owners who use their vehicles on a daily basis, due to the added agility it provides. For hardcore driving and track-day enthusiasts, it may not be needed, said the insider.
