Driving on the Nurburgring Nordschleife isn’t easy. In fact, it’s very, very difficult.
For starters, ‘Green Hell’ is actually a public toll road meaning pretty much anyone can drive on it, including those that shouldn’t. Additionally, it is over 20 km in length and has 154 corners, meaning unlike most other racetracks, it is extremely difficult to memorize every single corner unless you’re Sabine Schmitz.
Add to that virtually no run off areas, the possibility of oil being on the surface and ever-changing weather conditions and you have the makings of arguably the world’s most challenging racetrack.
One BMW driver recently discovered first hand just how brutal the Nordschleife can be after loosing control of the tail-happy estate.
Filmed by a track-goer, the driver can be seen entering a left hand bend with far too much speed. The rear end begins to slip out almost immediately and unable to correct the slide, the driver panics and taps the brakes, sending the BMW into a violent fishtail the other way.
Remarkably, the car stayed away from the unforgiving steel crash barriers and came out unscathed.
H/T to Jalopnik!
