The 2016 Singapore Grand Prix went down almost as usual, with both Mercedes drivers dominating the race, albeit there was a scary moment when a marshal ran from the incoming F1 cars.

The race started somewhat dramatically after Nico Hülkenberg suffered a crash, but since the German driver was the only one unable to get past the first turn, the event continued to unfold under the safety car.

The race was restarted after one lap, but due to a breakdown in communication, a marshal returned on the track to pick-up some of the remaining debris left by the Force India single-seater – oblivious of the impending danger.

That’s when a swarm of drivers, led by Nico Rosberg, appeared at full throttle, forcing the marshal to run for his life, away from the oncoming cars. The footage captured during the race shows him running at the side of the track, in the brink of time.

According to ABC, F1’s governing body, FIA, will conduct a report to elucidate the situation, with a spokesperson saying: “We take this very seriously…Everything will be done to ensure this does not happen again.”

When asked about the incident, Rosberg explained how he didn’t expect such a swift restart:

“That was pretty hairy for sure. Just as we didn’t expect the restart, he didn’t either. The restart was somehow pretty abrupt, but he got out of the way just in time so it was OK. But we had to drive a bit carefully through there.”

This is the second time something similar happens at the Singapore Grand Prix, after last year a spectator climbed over the barriers and made it on to the track.
