According to fresh reports, Porsche is pondering the launch a smaller variant of its upcoming Mission E electric sedan.
Just recently, it was confirmed that the German marque had delayed its mid-engined supercar project and Automobile Magazine says a smaller Mission E may get the go-ahead first.
Such a model is apparently known within the company as the Pajun E and would borrow much of its electric drivetrain from the larger Mission E. While the marque’s chief executive Oliver Blume failed to confirm the development of such a model, he did reveal that the Mission E’s architecture is scalable, meaning it could be used for other models.
As it stands, the production-spec Mission E is being developed to slot into the mid-size sedan market, rivalling the Tesla Model S. A potential smaller variation could then tackle the electric 3-Series which BMW is thought to be actively developing.
From a business standpoint, producing an electric sedan similar to the Tesla Model 3 certainly makes more sense than a Ferrari 488 GTB-rivalling hybrid-powered supercar.
In our ideal world, we’ll see both hit the market and considering that the supercar project has merely been delayed and not cancelled, that might happen.
