Chevrolet’s offensive into the Chinese market continues with the introduction of the all-new Malibu XL Hybrid.

This is the local version of the US model that has received the XL moniker to differentiate from the previous generation, which remains on sale, and it is virtually identical to its North American sibling.

Joining the fresh Cruze and the regular Malibu XL into the People’s Republic, the Hybrid costs between RMB 239,900 and RMB 269,900 ($35,997-$40,499), and uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a two-motor electric drive unit that is powered by an 80-cell, 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The average fuel consumption sits at 4.3 lt/100 km (54.7 mpg US) and the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 8.8 seconds.

Offered with a 3-year or 100,000 km (62,137 miles) vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 160,000 km (99,419 miles) warranty for components such as the electric drivetrain, batteries and control system, the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu XL Hybrid carries the OnStar 4G LTE, Chevy MyLink infotainment and 8-inch multi-touch color LCD screen. It also comes with Apple CarPlay compatibility, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), available with a Bose premium sound system, and 10 active safety technologies, including the Side blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
