While it can’t be considered expensive, given its specs, some have questioned the Focus RS’s near $40,000 price tag. After all, can a Ford hatchback really be that good?
Ever since the car launched, it has been praised by the automotive press and owners alike, largely because of the driving thrills it provides. Not convinced by all the RS badges and the stats, Doug DeMuro jumped behind the wheel of a Nitrous Blue example – and he was immediately won over.
A quick look at the vehicle’s spec sheet will give you a hint at just how good the car is. For starters, its 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine delivers 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, enough to accelerate the Focus RS to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a brisk 4.7 seconds.
Beyond its engine, the car has a killer all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring that can send up to 70 per cent of its power through a single rear wheel. There’s even a launch control system and the ability to flat-foot shift.
Inadvertently, one can’t help but wonder what the even wilder RS500 will be like…
