A problem with models equipped with Continuously Variable Transmission has forced Mitsubishi to recall an estimated 45,731 units of the Outlander Sport crossover in the United States.
According to the notice released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue stems from a hose clamp which may not have been properly secured in the continuously variable transmission assembly. That could allow transmission fluid to leak out, potentially disabling the transmission’s proper functioning – and increasing the risk of a fire.
The recall affects only certain examples of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport from the 2015 model year – specifically those manufactured between June 25, 2014, and November 25, 2015, with the base 2.0-liter engine and CVT option.
Owners of models with the 5-speed manual or the larger 2.4-liter engine, then, need not worry. But those with that specific model can expect to hear from the manufacturer to bring their vehicles in to their local dealership to have their transmission hose clamps inspected and, if necessary, repaired.
