In its continual efforts to fill every possible niche, BMW is working on a Gran Coupe variant of the 2-Series and apparently, it will be front-wheel drive.
The BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe will arrive in 2019 when the 1-Series and 2-Series welcome their latest generations. The Gran Coupe variant will directly target the Mercedes-Benz CLA which as it happens, is front-wheel drive in its entry-level versions.
Initially, speculation was rife that the 2-Series Gran Coupe would be a rear-wheel drive but BMW Blog says it will run on the same platform as the 1-Series Sedan meaning it’ll send power to the front.
A member on German Car Forum claims to have been invited to an auto consumer research event to assess the impending 2-Series Gran Coupe. Alongside seeing detailed images of the model, the 228i owner claims that confirmation was given that the model will be front-wheel drive.
If the car does indeed launch like this, there’s a good chance other 2-Series models will shift from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive.
