Thanks to its 707 hp supercharged V8, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the world’s most powerful production muscle car. Even though it is capable of out-accelerating much more powerful supercars in stock form, Hennessey Performance offers a selection of tuning packages for the car.
At the top of the list is its brutal HPE1000 package. Consisting of key modifications like twin ball-bearing turbochargers with aluminum compressor wheels, a high-flow air-to-water intercooler, stainless steel headers, dual turbo wastegates and an upgraded fuel system among other changes, the car delivers just a touch over 1,000 hp.
When a particularly menacing example hit the tuner’s dyno, it managed to churn out an insane 848 hp and 787 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels while running on 15 psi of boost. That equates to around 1,060 hp at the flywheel when factoring in a 20 per cent drivetrain power loss, making this Hellcat as powerful as a Bugatti Veyron.
Hennessey says that on a drag strip, these upgrades slash the 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time to just 2.7 seconds, helping to rocket the car down the quarter mile in just 9.9 seconds at 148 mph (228 km/h), a time to match the fleet of hybrid hypercars.
