Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a large recall for over 320,000 vehicles in the United States alone. The impetus for the recall was a wire harness, which was apparently not crimped properly during manufacturing.

The problem could cause the vehicle to lose power. But even in those circumstances, all the driver would need to do is switch off the engine and start it again. The campaign affects the Chrysler 200 sedan, Ram ProMaster City van, and the Jeep Renegade and Cherokee sport-utes. The scope of the recall encompasses an estimated 323,361 vehicles in the United States, plus another 35,511 in Canada, 7,067 in Mexico, and a further 43,927 outside North America.

All the vehicles affected are from the 2015 model year, plus some 2014 Cherokees. Because of a change in the manufacturing process, however, no vehicles built after September 23, 2014, are affected by the recall.

FCA reports it is “unaware of any related injuries or accidents” resulting from the issue. It is nevertheless urging owners to bring their vehicles in for service once they receive notice. Resolving the issue will involve replacing the wire harness and update the software.
