Hot Wheels are the masters of miniature die-cast cars but in the past, have also fettled with life-size vehicles and prior San Diego’s upcoming Comic-Con, have done it again.

The car is dubbed the X-wing Fighter and is part of Hot Wheels impending range of Carships which as the name suggests, are cars inspired by spaceships from Star Wars. Sales of the 1:64 scale models will commence later in the year but to us, this running prototype is even more exciting.

Power for the car comes courtesy of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder sourced from Ford. While the car’s underpinnings aren’t known, it’s potentially based around a Formula Ford chassis meaning it should handle the twisty stuff quite well. The exterior has been adorned with distinctive bodywork which reportedly produces 950 pounds of downforce at 165 mph (265 km/h). Not bad at all.

The vehicle is so true to its goal that its various fake weapons have actually been made from genuine aircraft components in a nod to its flying, inter-galactic relatives.
