The Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC) has started selling its cars in North America after opening six dealerships across Mexico.
As it stands, Mexico consumer’s have three BAIC models to choose from; the D20 hatchback, D20 sedan and the D20-based X25 compact crossover. By the end of the year however, the Chinese firm intends on offering three additional models in Mexico.
Speaking with Autonews, BAIC’s vice president Wei Huacheng revealed that the firm intends on building a Mexican assembly plant to handle the production of a selection of petrol cars and electric vehicles.
Huacheng said that “Mexico … is a very important part (of our) long-term vision.”
Most recently, BAIC introduced the Arcfox-7 a few months ago with the promise of it being China’s very first all-electric supercar. Tipped to go on sale later this year, the car utilizes a 6.6 kWh battery pack coupled to an electric motor, resulting in a total of 603 hp.
This will reportedly rocket the Arcfox-7 from 0-100 km/h (62 mph ) in under 3 seconds and onto a 260 km/h (162 mph) top speed. A 299 km (186 mile) range should also be achievable.
