In their attempt to secure yet another accolade regarding their popular F-150 truck, Ford has now launched an all-new EcoBoost V6 engine capable of delivering best-in-class peak torque figures.

This new, second-generation 375 HP 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine packs an extra 10 HP as well as an extra 50 lb-ft (67 Nm) of torque compared to the first-generation unit, taking the total output to a segment-best 470 lb-ft (637 Nm).

According to Ford, that’s enough to edge out all diesel and gasoline-powered competitors, including those utilizing V8 engines with nearly twice the displacement of the EcoBoost V6.

“The 2017 Ford F-150 now delivers the best torque in the segment,” argues Raj Nair, Ford executive VP of product development & CTO. “This class-leading torque arrives with a transformative 10-speed automatic that improves nearly every aspect of F-150 performance.”

Together with the new 10-speed automatic gearbox, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 will deliver improved acceleration, especially during low-end and peak engine performance – ideal for hauling heavy trailers, or other heavy payloads. Ford also points out that the transmission is the first volume-production 10-speed auto available to consumers from any automaker.

The new engine should help Ford build on the success of the old 2.7-liter EcoBoost unit as well as the first-gen 3.5-liter one, found on the 2016 F-150. In fact, these two engines account for approximately 60% of all F-150 sales.

The new 2017 Ford F-150 will go on sale this fall.
