One of the most perfect examples out there of the classic Mustang Boss 429 pays a visit to Jay Leno.

Following a painfully detailed restoration, this 1969 Mustang Boss 429 is as close to the original you can get, having even the period-correct smog pump.

Under the hood there’s the company’s huge 429 V8 (7.0-litre), which according to the label, made 375hp, but these big engines were always underrated at the time. Nevertheless, Ford was losing the muscle car battle back then as its biggest competitors offered not only bigger official figures, but they were also spreading rumors that their cars were closer to the 500hp mark, leaving the Boss Mustang way behind in the eyes of the audience.

Ford wanted to homologate a new engine for the Nascar series. The rules required a production run of at least 500 cars with it and the result was the Boss 429. Kar Kraft was contracted to modify the Mustang’s chassis in order to fit this beast of an engine under the hood and build them as well.

Eventually the company built just 1,358 Boss 428s, making it one of the most rare and sought-after models of the Mustang family.
