What do Lewis Hamilton, a jungle and the Nurburgring have in common? Why, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT R, of course.
If that makes little to no sense, learn that this is the latest video teaser of what will eventually become the range-topping version of the AMG GT range, and the Formula One champion is “on a quest to find the beast”, which previously struck the Green Hell a few nights ago, leaving some skid marks.
Having settled the connection, we’ll move on to the sports car’s name, “GT R”, which is normally associated with the Godzilla, but for some reason it became the official badge on the 3-pointed star’s vehicle. It will set itself apart from the more docile AMG GT and AMG GT S with a more aggressive body kit and it will also benefit from improved brakes, steering, and suspension.
The most significant upgrade, however, will come from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which will deliver an extra punch believed to bring the output to anywhere between 550 HP and 600 HP, which is significantly more over the current AMG GT S’ 510 PS (503 HP), while improving its 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time to just a little over 3 seconds. Full details on the “Beast of the Green Hell” will be announced on June 24, at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
